Shammi Kapoor is one of the finest actors that Hindi cinema has ever produced.
He was the second son of the great Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of the
legendary actors Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. Extremely handsome and dashing,
he was the leading star of Hindi cinema from the late 50s to the early 70s. He
debuted in Bollywood in 1953, with the film Jeevan Jyoti and went on to deliver
hits like Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Junglee, Dil Tera Diwana,
Professor, China Town, Rajkumar, Kashmir Ki Kali, Janwar, Teesri Manzil, An
Evening in Paris, Bramhachari, and Andaz and Vidhaata. He received the Filmfare
Best Actor Award in 1968 for his performance in Brahmachari and Filmfare Award
for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhaata in 1982. Shammi Kapoor is credited with
having changed the way male leading actors acted. Before his debut, the hero was
supposed to be the tragic king, mouthing soulful verses and dialogues, pining
for his lost love or land or craving for freedom. The hero was always a function
of external forces and was mostly reactive, as he was vulnerable to various
external influences. Shammi changed all of this. He introduced dancing at a time
when the hero clung to a pillar and watched the heroine gyrate away and never
